Does OBIEE support circular joins

Does OBIEE support circular joins, I tried to create one and it works fine. When I search for it I see this article https://www.rittmanmead.com/blog/2008/08/resolving-fan-traps-and-circular-joins-using-obiee/

Which says the OBIEE throws an error, is there any update for 12.2.1.4.0 which is why I am not seeing any error?

Please suggest if I am missing on anything.
