When using a calculation inside another calculation, use the name instead of content

Organization Name
Maritz
Description
Currently when using a calculated column inside another calculation, instead of populating the original calculated column name it will insert the original calculated column content. At times, the original calculation may be very large which make it very hard to see what it part of the original calculation and what's part of the new calculation. I think this could be simplified by inserting the name of the original calculation and allowing the user to click the name to see what the content looks like. This is better illustrated in the uploaded image. You'll notice in the image, that #2 and #3 are the same with the exception of using content vs. name. As you can see, #3 is much easier to read than #2.

I hit this limitation as well, so would be good to have it implemented.
Generally what I am missing is the ability to "share" calculations across projects - since some calculation (due to the logic - see blog https://blogs.oracle.com/analyticscloud/two-ways-to-create-custom-calculations-in-oracle-analytics ) needs to be defined on project level (not on data set level) and thus are limited for usage just in the project. Would be fine to have the possibility to define "project level" calculation (as per the mentioned blog), but sharable across projects.1 -
I agree with both Jay and Michal. Jay's post is particularly clear What would be especially helpful is the ability to promote a set of custom calculations to a new data set and have the custom calculations as proper columns. This would enable us to capture the development effort without going through manual process of copying and pasting logical sql. In the spirit of Gabby's comment asking for one idea per entry, I'll go ahead and start a new idea, unless someone else does it first

I have to say that everybody in the PM and Dev team join this vote
There is some large technical work that needs to get resolved in order to allow it, but it is being worked on. We will communicate ETA once we get further down the road with the work as it is not trivial.

I find it would be useful, to promote consistent definition (only one copy to maintain) and expression clarity.

This would be really good to have. Currently it becomes very difficult to understand the first calculation inside the second. This functionality would bring an ease to use the calculations/expressions.

This would great as I have multiple dependencies built into several calculations. Whenever one breaks it's an arduous process to reconcile everything (especially given we can't sort calculations currently).

As an update, I'm happy to report that we solved a significant technical hardle on the path to be able to do this one. Will provide more updates once we will have a line of sight into a possible delivery.
