Multiple Installations of OBIEE - 11g and 12c on same Unix Servers?

Hi -

Have a customer looking at a "fresh" or "out-of-place" upgrade, from 11g to OBIEE 12c.  Thinking we can have both 11g and 12c in the same bare-metal servers as transition ...

During my search, I saw this statement - "... you can have multiple installations of OBIEE running on the same server, but they need to be completely separate installations with their own configurations – different Oracle Homes, different port numbers and separate RPD/Catalog/Security and different scripts to start/stop/manage them."

Can someone verify/validate above possible?  And has worked in production?

As Christian already confirmed, it is possible, but is not such an easy task as you will need to ensure that you change all the ports so both instances don't conflict and accidentally try to use the same ports as there are quite a few. I recommend to follow his advise and create virtual machines to run OBIEE in instead of side by side under separate Oracle homes.

Yes it can work but most of the time it's just so much more hassle than spinning up a new virtual machine.
