I'm not really sure there is a hard limit which you are supposed to hit if you want your system to be usable ...
Writing a 2000 words dashboard name just make it unusable.
Did you hit a limitation? What "size" are you looking for?

My client is looking to have a dashboard name of size, 72 characters.
I need to know if there is any document available on the number of characters of dashboard name that would be visible without truncation.
For instance, if "Test1Test2Test3Test4Test5Test6Test7Test8Test9Test10Test11Test12Test13Test14" is dashboard name the client wants to display,
it's getting displayed as "Test1Test2Test3Test4Test5Test6Test7Test8Test9Test10Test11Test12.....".

In that case there isn't much control that you'd have over this as this is all rendered in HTML by OBIEE and it's dependent on so many variables including screen size, font size, screen resolution etc
@Christian Berg recently held an ODTUG webinar in which one point he raised in his presentation was pushing back on User requests. This is something I'd strongly suggest you push back on as there are alternative ways of displaying narrative text on dashboards and this doesn't seem to be the best approach.

Ok, so your question is different: not the maximum size of a name, but the maximum visible size.
And the answer is : there isn't an answer as it depends on the user !
Depends on the size of the browser, depends on how many other things needs to be displayed on the same row.
If there is enough space OBIEE will display whatever you entered as name, if there isn't enough space it will not add an horizontal scroll for dashboard names, so it will start truncating the name as much as required.
So there isn't an answer, if your users can't see 72chars of a name tell them to put their browser in full screen mode, buy higher resolution screens.
Also a detail: you asked about dashboard name, Joel example is page name. So ... are you actually interested in page name or dashboard name?

Oh my god are you trying to give everbody eye-cancer with this?!?!
@3364140 and that simply and plainly is rubbish! It's just a user idea and not a "requirement"!
The requirement might be "I need to be able to identify things" and not "My dashboard title must be:
"All I have eaten over the last days still is not enough to fill 74 chars!"
That's 74 chars by the way including the blank spaces.

Dynamic HTML and screen sizing still seems to be a mystery in 2017 (almost 2018)
