I hope someone on here can assist me in regards to OBIEE and Oracle SOA. Does the quickstart allow for the OBIEE reporting tools to be installed on it so I can test the reporting capabilities included in OBIEE. We had bought the license for Essbase and apparently OBIEE was included, or needed to be purchased with the Essbase license, so I want to test to see if it is worth taking the time to build an OBIEE environment without creating a large IT project to deploy it.

Thanks

    Hi,

if you want OBIEE fast then try downloading Oracle Virtualbox and then install the Oracle prebuilt package for Business Intelligence, provided it is all for non-production purposes there are no license implications.

Probably also just a good sales guy since "OBI was included in Essbase" is the equivalent of "The car was included in my seats"

And Robert is spot on: use one of the SampleApps - it's way more complete than anything you can slap together yourself

Are you saying you have "OAC" ? Oracle Analytics Cloud Service | Oracle

Why would you say that? OBIEE comes with Essbase bundled since 11.1.1.7

I say it as he says "free" OBIEE. OAC is licensed by core so, it is free with essbase.

Well, I had started at the organization in the middle of the implementation of Essbase. So I never knew about OBIEE until I had a phone conversation with an Oracle Rep and he asked me how I liked OBIEE. That is what prompted me to start investigating and asking questions. I am fairly uniformed on how it is packaged.

I downloaded the virtual box and that is about as far as I've gotten so far as I'm unsure if I need to create a Linux environment to run OBIEE or what the next steps are. I'm doing the research to progress this further and I appreciate the assistance on getting me started.

Large IT project ... no ... a viable business initiative looking for value out of it's data assets, yes.

    Hi,

once you have downloaded the virtual box you then download the Business Intelligence pre-built application - the second link I provided as above - just scroll down until you find the Business Intelligence pre-built download.

From memory I think you also need to install the extension first.

The pre-built gives you an OS within the virtual environment, with all of the BI software pre-installed.

So once you have that installed you are entirely good to go.
