Export functionality to be included in Usage Tracking
Organization Name
Schneider Electric
Description
Administrators need to be able to monitor who, when and what is being exported outside the system.
Clicking on the Export button needs to trigger an event to be recorded in some sort of Usage Tracking module.
Use Case and Business Need
There is an option to export data in the OAC DV and OBIEE. This has some data privacy and GDPR concerns.
While consuming the data in the platform might be good (as Administrators can guarantee that data is secured and seen only by the granted users), the fact that the data can be easily exported generates a security risk for data breaches, once the data leave the boundaries of the platform.
Moreover, OAC provides a simple and intuitive way to consume data, so users should not need to move the data elsewhere and they can operate within the tool.
However, there is no way for Administrators to control today what data is leaving the platform, in the form of user exports. And also, it is not possible to know what is the adoption rate of the visualizations in the tool (e.g. to understand if users are using the platform only to download data, or data is being consumed within the tool).
For the above reasons, we believe that the platform needs to provide a Usage Tracking functionality, similar to the one it already has for report execution, but related to exports.

I absolutely agree.
This is one of the most important pieces of information customers need to have about user's activity on the system, and it's already present in the logs.0 -
I resonate with this idea - we just know, that some logical SQL has been fired by some user (representing analysis run, dashboard prompt values retrieval, even runnign visualization in DV), but it is impossible to figure out, what user has exported what data from OBIEE/DV UI.

Agree.

This makes sense. We will review how we can approach this.

Agree!. Voting Up!.

This would be an ideal metric to track. Other tools provide this solution.

This is critical for us to determine what end users could be served with either improved dashboards or greater self-service capability.

we need to understand who is exporting things, for security and usage tracking

Voted on another idea that spoke to this. Giving my thumbs up on this one also, would be very helpful.

Question to Product Mgmt: According to the referred blog this functionality is only available for OAC - what about OAS, is there a plan to implement this functionality as well ?
