What do you mean by "customize"?

What i meant by customization is modifying the contents of home page.
If possible would like to replace it with my own custom page.

You create a dashboard which will be your own customized homepage, and then configure OBIEE so that users are sent to that dashboard after login instead of the default home page.
The OBIEE home page (which isn't a dashboard) can't be customized ...
Previously in obiee 11g we used the portalpath variable in RPD to set the default home page.The same seems to be not working in obiee12c, is there any change in this approach.
Do you want to set home page for every user or just to some specific user?
For individual user, you can set Home page using below steps,
Go to
My Account > Starting Page.
Here you will get values like Default, My Dashboard, and the list of other dashboards available in your catalog.

Yes PORTALPATH and the whole My Account are super buggy.
Havent tried last weeks BP yet.
Is there any "hard" way to achieve this in obiee 12c, as we have used this feature in our previous release with obiee 11g. So we need to retain this in some form, please advise.
