Wildcard search in DV filters is documented but doesn't seem to work; function of "pattern match"

The filter documentation contains this passage:

Locate the member you want to include and click it to add it to the Selections list. Alternatively, use the Search field to find a member you want to add to the filter. Use the wildcards * and ? for searching (https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/paas/bi-cloud/bilug/exploring-data-using-filters.html#GUID-B0EE8887-1733-46C5-8A06-7CBE6E83EE90

This doesn't seem to work; typing n* or n? doesn't return anything in the search even if there are elements that would match.

Also the "end" option returns the same result as "contains".

Second question: does anyone know what the "pattern match" option does? I couldn't find a documentation anywhere.
