Description

Option to password protect excel files in OTBI for scheduled reports

Use Case and Business Need

With all the new and upcoming GDPR regulations, I would like the ability to secure (password protect) all the reoccurring reports that are being automatically sent to our employees inbox via OTBI. I have searched the community and found a user (Thank you Gary Miller) who has the same business need. Based on the response in that thread, it seems this is only available for PDF files which is not ideal for our business. All of our reports are scheduled to deliver via an Excel file not PDF.

This would be a huge value add to our global business, keep us compliant with GDPR regulations and will be a huge time saver for our system administrators who are doing this manually today.

    Ashley,

I agree with Gary and you and think the ability to Password Protect any report which can be sent from OTBI should be standard.

This is an older thread, so i dont know if there was any progress on this, but this is a much desired functionality.

Having said that, Ashley, for GDPR compliance, i'd advise you send the users a link to the report.

The moment you send the Excel (encrypted/unencrypted; password protected/unprotected, doesnt matter) you have taken a snapshot of data out of the source system, and sent it via email.

All forms of password protections can be overcome, if you employ the correct tools, specially on offline versions of documents.

    Thanks

We also need this requirement to protect our Pii data.

We really need this feature to password protect the file, our users want us to schedule the report and currently cannot do that due to security concern
