We would like to see the OAC product have a feature that allows for easy publishing of analytics/reports/dashboards for public consumption, similar to public facing features found in MS Power BI or Tableau. The current process to embed OAC content is cumbersome and undocumented from a public facing perspective, and there doesn't seem to be a good option for doing the same for OBIEE classic dashboards within OAC 105.8. Both Power BI and Tableau make this process very smooth and straightforward, making this a glaring omission from the OAC product.

Use Case and Business Need

We need to be able to easily share report and dashboard content for public access. Universities in general have a lot of data that serve the informational needs of many different stakeholders.

To compete with self-service BI tool "pioneers" (Tableau,Power BI...) and offer similar capabilities, this feature is definitelly a "must" - and it pays for DV projects but as well for good old Dashboards/Analysis as well.

Just FYI, this is how it's possible to publish OAC DV content so it's available publicly - i.e. with automatic, token based authentication in the back end:

just a short question - can similar approach (as described in blog "Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) Embedding— Public User Access — Part 1") be taken to expose DV content publicly using OAS (thus on-premise sw) ?

Thanks Mike. I've seen those articles as well. There is a similar video on YouTube directly from the Oracle Analytics team. For us it was more or less the fact that it's not nearly as straightforward as some of the competing products, in addition to the fact that the method noted doesn't seem to work for OBIEE classic dashboards as well.

Hi Cameron,

There is a distinct difference between providing this capability based on an on-prem deployment (in our case, with OAS), vs. doing the same with a cloud service. It is true that competing products might demonstrate a simpler approach, but that is usually the case for on-prem solutions, as it is the case for OAS. Even then, it is not always apples to apples, as an example, Power BI will not allow embedding of content based on live connection data sources (which parallels to OBI dashboard that are all based on live connection data sources), which is something that we are able to do with OAS, but still did not completely crack the code on doing it with OAC.

It might be the case that by aiming high we put ourselves at a disadvantage and cause delays to simpler but limited use cases, but on the flip side, our customers and partners expect more from us. I regularly see customers that have no issue with limitations on one product, expect OAC not to have the same limitation. It might be related to the fact that prioritize live access ahead of data snapshots, which is the opposite compared to other popular products.

Regardless, it is Mike's mission in life to expand our capabilities in this space and simplify the experience. Your feedback is extremely valuable and we are happy to collaborate as we move forward in this space, especially when it comes to understand the use cases and which limitations might or might not be acceptable.

Thank you for the detailed response, much appreciated. I look forward to seeing what kind of improvements are made in the coming months/years. While I I do look forward to improvement in this area of the product, I for one see many advantages that OAC/OAS/OBIEE have over competing products and definitely appreciate all the work that has done into making it the product it is today (just beginning to dig into the ML capabilities). thanks for sharing the link with publicly exposed Dashboard (https://ida.ussc.gov/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard) with I assume, mixed content of analysis and DV projects/canvas (along with dashboard prompt). Since we are using OBIEE (version 12c) for similar kind of presenting public dynamic content (see for example https://www.cnb.cz/cnb/obiee or https://www.cnb.cz/cnb/obiee_dek_uc_bilance ) and we are potentially thinking to "switch" for those public dynamic content to OAS (with the ability to use also DV content), I am quite curious about some "technical" aspects of this site - here are my questions:

1) This public site is build using "on-premise" sw- thus Oracle Analytics Server ?

2) How is automatic "public" login into dashboard accomplished using GoURL parameters (adding NQUser and NQPassword parameters to URL on "behind") - thus internal SSO must be switched off ? How is then automatic login into DV accomplished (there is also DV content exposed on dashboards) ?

In Banco de la República, the central bank of Colombia, we currently have around 4000 clasical reports and Dashboards generated in OBIEE 12, many of which are exposed to the general public. We need the option to publish these reports in OAC (Oracle Analytics Cloud) to uphold our image and keep the community informed, now leveraging the cloud with a PaaS (Platform as a Service) solution. 31-Jul-2023
