Why scheduling is not an easy task in OBIEE 11g?

Hi All,

I was trying to schedule the BI Reports(Analysis and dashboard) in OBIEE 11g. I am not getting any output from the Agent for the analysis which is having Prompts. Mail services is also not working.

Also I felt Creating Agent is a typical task for End User to do that. And it is not prompting for the filter before the agent runs.

At the same time, Scheduling in BI Publisher is altogether different and Easy for the End user to schedule any Reports.

Is there any proper document or easy guide to do scheduling in OBIEE 11g. Please help

Absolutely not the intent of OBIEE ... OBIEE is all about getting the summarized answer to the screen so business person can act/decide confidently and accurately.

Ok as I thought. The actual requirement is nothing that should EVER be done with OBIEE. That's something which should be delivered either directly from the database or - at the utmost - via BI Publisher.

And: No you will never get a popup. Ever. You can set filter context when you use analyses but for dashboard pages or whole dashboards it uses actual context of the prompts.

Thanks for your comments. It really helped me to start with Agent in OBIEE 11g.

Actually in my case, the end user wants to schedule the reports due to some performance related issues because of huge data, so that they can go offline from obiee and will get the report through mail as an attachment. And the reports are having dashboard and Analysis Prompts. So my questions will be is it possible to have the pop-up window asking for Prompts before they run the agent.?

The users can run the Agent in business hour and they can get the output within 1-2 hours. Because some reports are their which takes around 1 hour and user doesn't want to wait with the Online web browser till output gets generated. So they want this scheduling option be available.
