Move OBIEE 12.2.1.1.0 repository to new server

Question

Hi all,

We have requirement to move current dev OBIEE 12.2.1.1.0 repository from virtual machine db server to new Exadata X3-2, but i have difficulties to find guidelines in official Oracle documentation or in Oracle support knowledge base for this task.

The database where OBIEE repository lives is common for Oracle OBIEE rdp, ODI repository and small ODI dwh target schemas.

I am thinking about to split current common database to distinct PDB databases during migration - one container db for OBIEE rdp, and another for ODI rdp and DWH schemas, or to create dedicated databases for all three components - OBIEE repo / ODI repo / DWH schemas.. but from other hand i am in doubt because this will bring also complexity considering that all databases will anyway be in the same Exadata server.

Nevertheless, the main question is what is the proper way to move repository to new server?

This is dev environment, but in future will be cloned to production.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Why not simply create a new repository and make a new OBIEE installation? Full OBIEE installation takes only a couple of hours. I believe it's the fastest and the simplest solution. And the most reliable too.

Thank you Rampradeep. It seems we have to go with dp export of database and after import to exadata, change OBIEE jdbc data sources to point to new database,

but i am still unclear about whole process and i think we will have to open SR with support in order to do this in proper way.

Hi Ivan,

Oracle has told us that they don't recommend this migration of RCU when we approached for version OBIEE 11g. However they told us that it will work if you change the connection details appropriately after the migration is done.

Jdbc Data Sources under Weblogic Domain  and BI_PLATFORM schema under Scheduler tab of Business Intelligence. You can search for more info on where all the connection details exist and change as needed.
