Support BI Server Session Variables in OAS/OAC Data Visualizer (DV)

Oracle Analytics Data Visualizer (DV) does not currently support BI Server session variables (e.g., NQ_SESSION.*) that are defined and evaluated in the RPD semantic layer.

This creates a functional gap between:

  • BI Answers, which fully supports session variables and enterprise semantic logic, and
  • DV, which relies only on workbook-level parameters and dataset-level calculations.

As a result, key enterprise use cases cannot be implemented consistently in DV and our users must rely on workbook-level parameters and duplicated calculations, which do not scale and introduce inconsistency. Enabling read-only support for BI Server session, repository, and presentation variables in DV would significantly improve governance, consistency, and enterprise adoption of DV—especially for financial and global reporting use cases.

Thanks for your response @Gianni Ceresa . Actually, what I was looking for is the 'Bind parameters to request variables' feature that got added to DV in OAS 2025 and was not available in OAS 2024 DV. We missed this feature earlier. We tested this feature and it works great in OAS 2025 DV.

The new parameter-to-request-variable binding feature in OAS 2025 now enables us to:

    • Create a parameter in your DV workbook and the bind that parameter to a request variable. We can then have that request variable override or interact with our RPD session variable (in our case PREFERRED_CURRENCY)

Bind a Request Variable to a Parameter in Oracle Analytics

Attaching the doc from Oracle above if others missed this feature too
