How to expand on year to see months on OAS

Hello everyone,

I appreciate your time in answering my question in advance.

Quick question: I'd like to visualize my sales based on year, but I'd also like to allow users to have something like an arrow to click on and then show the months, and then click on the months and see the days. I have my time dimension all set on the repository. Basically, it's what's in the second screenshot, but without the quarters, just year > month > day.

Hi,

You could create an alternative time hierarchy without the quarter level in it, and use that hierarchy as your column in the analysis.

The screenshot with the quarters are from a youtube vid, not mine.

My time hierarchy only has "YEAR>MONTH>DAY>DATE".

Maybe the problem is my oracle analytics version. The drill works, but not how i thought it would, it doesn't create an arrow but only allows the line to be cliackable

If i click on year it will expand to months, i was expecting arrows.. 😥

The arrows exists when you use the hierarchy, not the column. When using the column, what you are doing on the click is a drill-down.

Remove your YEAR column, and add the hierarchy itself directly. And you can use selection steps to pre-open the year level and remove "Total" above that if you want etc.

If your hierarchy isn't in the presentation layer, drag it there in your RPD.

I had removed the hierarchy itself from the presentation layer on the repository because the teacher i was following on an online class did the same 😅.

@gregg.rm I see you have the answer from Gianni. The hierarchical columns is what provides you and inline expanding report while the attribute column drilldown to next level added as another column in your report. While both provides the same information but has own pros and cons when used in reports.
