Exactly what I thought. Its not related to tuning. It worked perfectly for 10 hours and then it was very slow. But still working for me but not for other users. Even EM is slow . Oracle Business Intelligence 12.2.1.2.0.

11g is so fast and reliable. I am regretting my decision to upgrade to 12c . Oracle support also doesn't have any clue.

  • I say it again: you should increase the Node Manager (and Admin/Managed servers as well) Java heap size as stated in the tuning guide.

This should be done for each 12c environment as a post-installation task.

Your situation is very slow, so it's kind of different from mine.  In mine, I couldn't even log into Analytics, just hangs.  I created another local user, in addition to Weblogic, and it also couldn't log in.   This tends to happen over a weekend or holiday.  Yesterday was Thanksgiving and this morning I tried logging in and it hangs again.  EM and Weblogic works perfectly fine in my situation.  I just need to restart the Presentation service and everything is fast again.

Oracle now telling me to install the security patch bundle 12.2.1.0.161018 before they'll troubleshoot further.  I guess that's my only option for now.

    Hi Federico,

We increased the Managed Server java heap size to 2048, but it didn't help.  We will try to increase the Node Manager next and see.

What is your recommendation on the heap size for only 2 users in our DEV region?   The tuning guide suggests 4096 for Node Manager, Admin, and Managed Server.  Seems like an overkill for 2 users?  I think we only have 6 GB of physical RAM.

we increased the sever ram from 8 gb to 24 gb and also increased the java heap size as per tuning guide. BI is now faster and no more signing in hanging problem.Try this. We will be monitoring this the coming week and hopefully this will resolve the issue.

Try increasing the ram to atleats 16GB. Since you have increased the managed server to 2048 , its occupying this space and no releasing it. One of the reasons why it works when you restart the BI server as it releases the ram back.

  • Oracle recommend 8 GB or more RAM for OBIEE. With only 6 GB there will be a lot of swapping between hard disk and the RAM, even with only 2 users.

With 8 GB RAM I would recommend 512 MB for Node Manager, 2 GB for Managed Server and leave the default for the Admin Server.

If you have more RAM you can start with the above values, and then increase only Managed Server until you meet an optimal setup.

I'd rather say "It's their minimum requirement". You get almost 8GB with a mobile phone these days so a BI server should be sized correctly.  or just move your stuff to the cloud

We increased memory for our DEV server to 16GB and adjusted the heap size settings for Node Manager, Managed Server, and Admin Server according to the tuning guide.  Will monitor for couple of weeks to see if it hangs again.  Thanks!

Our issue happened again after this past weekend.  So increasing the heap sizes didn't work.  We're back to the drawing board.
