OBIA Question regarding Dashboards

I apologize for this newbie question in advance...I'm an EBS developer, not really an OBIEE developer.

My company purchased OBIA for Financials and Manufacturing.  We had a third party do the install/setup and when I log into OBIEE, I can see all the seeded subject areas.  ODI is running just fine and loading the seeded subject areas.  What we seem to be missing is any of the seeded Dashboards and Reports.  When I asked the question about why we didn't have them, I was told that we just didn't get them.  I thought this was the major feature of buying OBIAs.  If I had some of the seeded reports to look at, I would better know how to use the delivered subject areas.  Could a step have been missed in our install that would not have installed/exposed these features?  Any pointers on what to look for and where to look?  Or can anyone confirm that the data load piece for OBIA is a separate purchase from the dashboards/reports?

EBS Version 12.0.6

OBIEE Version 11.1.1.7.160719

OBIA Version ??? (not sure where to find this)

Thanks in advance,

Jessica

Ask your third party whether they're in the habit of selling you a car but just not include any body work

Thanks Christian.  That somewhat confirms my suspicions.  Any clue what I need to do to resolve this?  I'm joining the project late, the third party is already out of the picture and our internal staff didn't know to question this.

^--- BI Applications 11.1.1.10.X Content Guide

There's multiple content guides. the "OBIA version" is kind of an artificial thing as it's just content, not actual software. If you search for "business intelligence applications content" on MOS you get all the different lists of all the different versions.

    Christian,

These docs are providing good lists of what should have been delivered.  Apologies on the newbie question again, but any pointers on how to get them in our OBIEE instance?  I have two theories -

First that they are there, but our security was mucked up so that we can't see them.  I'm using weblogic though so I would have thought that I would have been able to see them.

Second, some installation piece was not run.

First is easy to check. Go to the server file system into the path where the web catalog lies and see whether it's emtpy. A file system won't lie as the User Interface will when you don't have valid rights.

    Path should sth like FMWHOME/instances/instance1/bifoundation/OracleBIPresentatioServer/catalog/bladibla

Second....yeah ask for your money back

    Hi Jessica,

OBIA is designed to be configurable to take data from a variety of prebuilt data sources under the wider Oracle group; Oracle e-Business suite, JD Edwards, Peoplesoft etc; however this flexibility means that your software partner as a sizeable configuration task to configure the solution to consume data from your source and load it through a number of stages into the data warehouse. The data warehouse star schemas are then used as the basis of the reports that are prebuilt in your solution.

    So; -

    1. Configure OBIA to use the appropriate data source

    2. Run ETL routines to populate data warehouse

    3. Test content in conjunction with functional experts

    4. Apply any security over the model for functional / data requirements

    5. Test until satisfied it is fit for purpose

    6. Release to wider population

So in terms of diagnosing where the problem could lay with; -

    1. Solution not configured

    2. ETL not run

    3. Content not correct

    4. Security model not correct

OBIA is no minor 'plug and play' solution, it really needs a full UAT process and it should be signed off before your 3rd party hit the road...

I suspect your implementation partner has not fully configured BI Applications, and to avoid making that blindingly obvious due to none of the seeded analytics working, have simply removed them (one way or another). The bottom line is that the catalog does come as part of OBIA - if I were you I would be demanding that they re-instate it.

Which user are you logging in as? It could be that they have (purposely of otherwise) not granted the appropriate catalog permissions. Are you able to log in as weblogic user and view the catalog there?

I'm using the weblogic user and the catalog is not there.  Like I said, the third party is long gone, I'm coming in late to the project and asking all the questions that should have been asked before they were done.

So if I can see folders like this on the server...

    $BI_HOME/instances/instance1/bifoundation/OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent/coreapplication_obips1/catalog/OracleBIApps/root/shared/procurement/purchasing/transactional+analysis+samples

Does that mean the content is there and I have a security issue to resolve?

Thanks again for any help you can provide!

When you click on Catalog in Analytics, can you see the folder under 'Shared Folders' or are they just missing from the Dashboards drop down?
