OBIEE 12c JDK requirements?

Hi,

We are doing a fresh install of 12.2.1.2 and wanted to see if we could use JDK 1.7 instead of 1.8.xxx. 
I tried looking up the certification in the excel files on the certification page but it seems to send me back to the page and I seem to be going in circles

I also checked out the requirements and specifications page but it does mention 1.8.0_101 but was wondering if that is set in stone.

is there any other link or does anyone know about this?
