Career Progression path in Business Intelligence

Hi Gurus
I am just curious to know the natural progression in a career in Business Intelligence. For example with a Comp Science qualification or Engineering working as an ODI ETL/ DW Developer and OBIEE Senior Developer/ Architect for 5 years or so. What is next? You don't like managing people but you are very technical and you have a very good relationship with the business users. Any ideas?

The obvious route is consultancy - you need both very business & communication skills, as well as very good technical knowledge. Other than that, probably systems design/architecture specialising with specific areas of tools, or industry-specific and broader toolsets. Caveat: 1. I've met great coders with 2 years experience, and awful ones with 5 years. Experience *oughtn't* (although sometimes is) a qualifying factor for a job 2. Qualifications shouldn't matter, after a certain point (but see above re. experience)

"You don't like managing people" ... what about leading people? Leadership establishes your legacy -- your influence in another's career and development IS the ultimate award for your effort in gaining a body of knowledge -- whether that person is a client or a co-worker.
Pursue being a leader ...
PS: management and leadership are two very different things ...
