I agree. We end up creating custom calc as a work around to solve this issue in my org.

I agree with this idea. To date, our organization has had to use calculated fields using RSum + case statements in order to trick the waterfall into doing custom sorting and falling the way we want. Our workaround works, but it will not work for users who are not familiar with creating calculations.

Hi, yes, you can add comments to the calculation editor box by commenting the texts out -- /** comments text here **/. I have found this helpful while testing calculations and, of course, explaining what I am trying to calculate. :)
