Deleting candidates on version 7.5

Our legal department will not let us delete candidates from Taleo because they need to keep the history of the candidate.  Candidates have asked us to delete their profile because they no longer want us to contact them.  I know they can uncheck the 'Accept invitations by email on career opportunities matching this profile' but how are other companies handling candidates who no longer want to be contacted by them (by a recruiter who is doing a search for example).

Any ideas would be appreciated.
