Is there a way to alert specific people about post to a forum?

We have several "Ask an Expert" forums available on our portal.  Although they are open to all employees, there is a specific group of individuals that are recognized as subject matter experts around each content area. As many of our people aren't at their desks throughout the day, is it possible to create some kind of email alert to let the SME's know when a post has been made?
