XI3.1 Scheduling Report (Excel)

Hi all,
I'm trying to schedule a report that sends directly to recipients as an excel document. Recipients did receive the report as scheduled but it is not in an excel format. But instead, it would prompt the recipient to choose a program when they double click on the attachment. What can I do to make it send an excel document automatically?
When I look into the format of the report in the "history" view, the format says "excel"
What I did:
Went into "Format and Destination", Checked " Microsoft Excel" as output format, and checked "add attachment" in Destination Options and Settings.
