What is the difference between a "cancelled" step in a process and a "terminated" step?

What is the difference between a "cancelled" step in a process and a "terminated" step?   I am trouble shooting issues in a recently built process and have encountered steps that show as cancelled and some as terminated.  Is there a specific cause for each?  My logic in the Transition Condition shows that the candidate should have seen the step (Content Page) but it shows as terminated.
