login ID is email address - don't want it to show us as hyperlink

Since the login ID initially assigned to a new employee is their email address (and as far as I know there's no way to change that), it shows up as a hyperlink in the Welcome email.  It's confusing - people click on that hyperlink & of course it opens a 'new email' dialog with that email address in the 'to' field.  Is there any way to provide their new login (their email address) without having it show up as a hyperlink in the Welcome email?  Thank you in advance!!!!
