What does the "Contacted Candidates" symbol mean?

Hi Everyone -

Can anyone provide more detail around the purpose of the "Contacted Candidates" symbol in the Requisition List View?  This is the envelope symbol that shows how many candidates have been contacted.  Just wondering how it defines if they've been contacted and how it evaluates the totals for this symbol.  For example, we have a requisition that only has 15 candidates who've applied to it, yet when hovering over the "Contacted Candidates" symbol, it shows that "322 candidates have been contacted since June 22, 2016".
