How do other organisations manage and clear down BPM in HCM?

We have over 1,000 notifications in Oracle Fusion that are out of date and need clearing down.  We tried going through the notifications and manually withdrawing them but this notified the creators of the transaction.  

I am interested in how other organisations manage this?  Is there a way we can singularly or bulk withdraw or delete out of date notifications without the system sending a notification to the creator?  I have raised an SR in the interim but if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
