Customizing 'Person Legislative Information' DFF

Trying to customize some segments of the 'Person Legislative Information' DFF when hiring an employee

I'm customizing the 'Person Information' train stop of 'Hire an Employee' and need to make some changes in the 'Legislative Information' section, specifically to the 'Veteran Self-Identification Status' dropdown and all of the checkboxes that follow. I'd like to make the 'Veteran Self-Identification Status' dropdown required and hide everything else. I've gone to View > Source and can edit the various Flexfield Global Context Segments, but when I apply the changes, nothing happens. If you know what it is I'm missing and wouldn't mind shedding some light for me, I'd greatly appreciate it!!
