Catalog/search widget sort order

Is there a way to sort the catalog/search widget results

I am looking at the results in the catalog widget, and they don't seem to be in any particular order once you get to the learning item level.

 

I am guessing the sort order should be specified in the search widget, but I don't see anything there either.

 

Am I missing something?
