Too many matching records found - Error

Has anyone come across this error, When I search for a person, I get the result and able to open it. But I get this error message and when i click ok, it goes off.  It happens for all employees, manually created as well as by HDL , old person created long time ago and new data created today.

Too many matching records found. Specify additional criteria to limit the number of records.

Any Idea let me know.
