Help! How do I create custom correspondences in Evaluation Management

I cannot add availabe Merge Fields to the Subject or Body of the Evaluation Management Email

Hi There,

What am I doing wrong?  I see the available merge fields in a drop down menu for both the Subject line and the Body of the email, but I cannot figure out how to add it.  It's frustrating that the functionality does not work like the other correspondences we add to the system.  Any tips and tricks would be much appreciated.
