Mismatch between Worker Type and Person Type

I just wanted to ask for your opinions regarding this issue.

So we have an issue where an employee has a Worker Type = Employee  but he has a Person Type = Contingent Worker in his 1 and only assignment. Due to this we are not able to submit changes to the employees department because a Worker Type of an Employee must have a Person Type of "E or ET" only.

While doing some testing, when we create a Worker Type of Employee, the Person type automatically gets assigned as E or Employee. Same goes if you create a Worker Type = Contingent Worker, the Person Type would automatically be a Contingent Worker as well. The Person Type field is not edittable either.
