Usernames auto generated as a 6 digit number

Hi there

We have a situation where if we have the need to set a candidate up manually, the system auto generates a username for them which is a 6 digit number.  We would like the option for this to be more meaningful such as their email address but I am told this this is system defined and standard.

Does anyone else have this and do you just work with it or have you managed to work around it? maybe been able to amend it?
