How to record a long term absence / maternity without using the absence module

We are not using the absence module, but still want a way to record Long Term Absence and Maternity Leave etc.

We are not using the absence module, but still want a way to record Long Term Absence and Maternity Leave etc.

The most logical solution seems to be the use of Actions / Action Reasons e.g. An Action of Suspend Assignment with an Action Reason of Maternity Leave (or similar combination); using the Projected End Date to record when the employee is likely to return to work.

 

Is this the most logical solution?  Does anyone record this differently (without the need to configure absences)?
