Contacts Search: Search Contact by Person Number

For Contacts Search, why search by Person Number is not provided via onlineContent
When we hire a Contact through HDL, we send the person number also in the DAT file. When the Contacts are hired through online, the system automatically creates the person number. But why in the Contacts Search, Search by Person Number is not available? Am not talking about a contact who was also an employee. this is only Contact who do not work for that organization. any specific reason?
