Remove formatting characters from text in Data Model report

We have a report set up to capture employees "career statement" from Career & Performance - Career Development.  Report is generating lots of formatting text such as the following example:

<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">

Is there a quick, easy way to amend this?  Perhaps in report properties?  In Analysis reports I can change the text format to html and it solves it, but is there an option to do so in Data Model? I suspect the Career Statement field is a customisation hence it didn't appear as an option in any Subject Area for an Analysis Report.
