Using the transaction approval subject area to compare initiated date vs effective date and the filter is not working correctly

I'm using the transaction approval subject area to compare effective date vs. initiated date, but I can't find an effective date in the subject area, so I'm substringing it from the subject. When I try to compare the dates the filter doesn't work. Do anyone have any ideas?
