What happens when you edit names and remove departments?

Hello everyone,

I have a scenario where we need to update the names of a lot of departments, and maybe remove some of existing ones.

What happens to for example John Doe when i change his departments name, will he still belong to the same updated department?

What happens to John Doe when i delete his department?

What is the correct way and best practice of doing this. Since i might have a department that contains 50 employees, where all of them will be relocated to the new department.
