Custom Manager Type

Hi All - We have a requirement to send the approval notification to Employee's custom manager type. The custom manager type is assigned to Employee in Assignment Data. The attached doc has the configuration for Manager Hierarchy. The approval isnt routing to Custom manager type. 

Can someone guide with the steps.
