We need to cancel work relationship for a rehire who never started

We need to cancel work relationship for a rehire who never started.  When we try to cancel the work relationship on a rehire who never started, we get an error because the person has benefit life events associated with that person number.  Those life events are from the prior role.  what is the best way to cancel so the person doesnt show on hire/term reports, etc...  Thank you so much.
