Is there a way to model different Department hierarchies

I am looking to essentially create a different Org/Dept reporting hierarchy and run an existing report using this hierarchy. The idea is to essentially do some comparison modelling on what a department structure change would look like against the current structure. I can't seem to find any information on this, if anyone can assist that would be appreciated.
