How to change Hire date for inactive records?

We have a scenario where Employee Hire date has to be corrected for inactive records . Please see below example.

EMP hired on 01-01-2014

Terminated on 2018-01-01

Rehired on 2020-01-01

So here we wanted to correct this date 01-01-2014 without delete/cancel existing records. Is it possible ?
