OTBI Analysis - Pulling the latest effective dated record

I am in need of assistance to create a filter to include only the latest date record in my analysis. We are creating dashboard charts to show responses from a survey. The analysis is creating a row for every response attempt from the users - so if a user initially had a response of 'no', then changed to 'yes', this is counting as two surveys. We only want to count for the latest response. I have tried using the MAX expression when filtering the analysis but i must be typing in something wrong. I believe i need a max expression
