Converting what pulls through as text to a number

I have created a report in OTBI but the 'Displayed Input Value Meaning' is coming through as a text field rather than a number field and ideally I would like to add the amounts up and put them on a graph. Is there any way to do this? They look like they are a number but under column properties they show as Plain text. thank you
