Community conversations/social aspect on community not appearing for end user

We have created a number of new communities with the hope of using the self service comments and conversations for the end users to interact through. However it doesn't seem to be showing as a user when I am in the community. 

See attached screenshots.

Is there a seperate setting you need to enable for these? Or maybe a privilege in the employee role that needs to be added? (We have a custom employee role)
