Update is not allowed for pending work relationship (classic or responsive)

The system does not allow me to update the pending worker, the only option allowed is to correct the pending worker. I see Oracle has removed the ability to update pending workers. We have a business need to update the pending worker instead of correct the pending work relationship in the below scenarios. 

"The system creates the pending worker as soon as the candidate accepts the offer and the recruiter moved the candidate to the HR stage. The pending worker proposed start date is in the future (1-2 months ahead). In the meantime, the employee's new manager joined. As the new manager hired after an employee's pending work relationship is created, we can not update the manager on the employee's pending work relationship here because the update is not allowed for pending work relationship"
