End dating existing project templates/creating new ones

We need to make some changes to our existing project types and task structure. I believe I will simply just end date the existing template and start creating the new one. For projects still in flight, there should not be any impact correct? Is there anything this community can think of that I should be aware of? I will also be creating a new project type as well.
