Area of Responsibility - Utilizing Job Family

I have an AOR setup on a person but the only part of the AOR that works is the department settings. It will not limit by Job Family as well

I've created an AOR for a user that needs to limit data by both department and job family.  The AOR works when it comes to limiting the data by the department but the job family settings just don't seem to apply.  

Has anyone had any luck setting up an AOR that uses the Job Family option.
