How do we default a value in dropdown - Enabling Sandbox

Hi All,

I want to default 'Resignation' as the option for *What's the way to submit the resignation? by enabling a Sandbox

Can you please advise. I tried using Page composer by selecting 'Resignation' and then making it read only , but when I Submit and then come back to same page I could see End of Contract getting defaulted.

Please advise.
