Calculate FTE and headcount automatically

Summary: We are currently in the process of implementing ORC and we have an autocomplete rule that changes Working Hours based on the Assignment Category (Full Time Regular = 40, Part Time Regular = 20, etc). However, the value in FTE only changes if we uncheck and re-check the Calculate FTE and headcount automatically field. Is this the intended functionality or is there some setting that can make this calculation for FTE happen automatically?
