What is the major difference between UDT and Lookup?

I have a scenario where I have the Element Entries and the vendor code related to it. So this I can achieve using the following two ways:

1) Create a UDT

2) Create a Lookup

Using both the setup I can get the data in the HCM Extract using the Fast Formula. Can anyone please explain the advantages of using UDT or Lookup and which will be the better in this case.
